The Stairway to Heaven
Also referred to as Cuilcagh Boardwalk, The Stairway to Heaven is one of the most popular walks in Fermanagh. Listed as the second most popular thing to do in Fermanagh it is a 14.8km (9.2 mile) walking route taking on average 2.5 to 3 hours to walk that encapsulates Cuilcagh Mountain and the surrounding area. The walking route meanders through one of the largest expanses of blanket bog in Northern Ireland and the first part of the walk passes through a fascinating limestone landscape. The walk then transforms into a boardwalk and finally onto a steep set of stairs when you will make your final ascent towards the top of Cuilcagh mountain. With breath taking views from the top of the mountain of the surrounding countryside, referred to as a hidden gem of Ireland this is the ideal outdoor attraction for those who enjoy a mountain climb.
National Trust Sites
Co Fermanagh is blessed to be surrounded by three National Trust Sites; Castle Coole, Florence Court and Crom Castle, two of which are listed in the top 10 things to do in Fermanagh by Trip Advisor. Made up of stunning walking trails, ancient castles and mesmerising scenery these parks appeal to all age groups. Not only do the parks have guided tours inside of the castle and coffee shops to enjoy a sweet treat after a scenic walk but they also provide seasonal activities for younger kids. A must visit destination for families.
Listed as the no 1 thing to do in Fermanagh, Florence Court is a beautiful 18th- century house located just 12 miles from Lough Erne Resort. Known for its stunning mansion, Florence Court offers a wealth of grounds to be discovered such as the Cattle Yard, Blacksmith’s Forge, Sawmill and Carpenter’s Shop. It is also home to one of the most important trees in Ireland ‘The Original Yellow Yew Tree.’ While at Florence Court take the opportunity to visit the Kitchen Garden where you can pick up some fresh fruit and vegetables carefully looked after by local volunteers.
The breath taking 2,000-acre Crom Castle estate located 25 miles from the resort outside Newtownbutler is made up of tranquil islands and ancient woodlands. One of Ireland's most important conservation areas, the landscape of Crom is home to a wealth of wildlife. During your visit keep a watchful eye on the cows nearby who have been known to swim across Lough Erne to graze fresh pasture. After uncovering the grounds at the estate, stop by Crom coffee shop for a tasty bite and delicious hot drink.
Castle Coole is one of the greatest neo-classical country houses in Ireland located just 5.6 miles from the resort. Visitors to this national park can avail of a guided tour of the castle which showcases some of the finest neoclassical architecture, interiors, furniture and Regency furnishings in Ireland. From the castle to the basement, visitors can also avail of a guided tour of the underground servants’ quarters of Castle Coole. Designated an area of Special Scientific Interest, thanks to it’s rich parkland habitat and associated species Castle Coole offers so much to be explored. While on your visit, take the opportunity to enjoy a picnic which can be made up by the resort on request.
Lough Erne

Erne Water Taxi is an ideal attraction for those wanting a relaxing tour of the Island Town of Enniskillen, it is most suited to those wanting to take in the surrounding landscape and learn about the history of the area. Choose from three tours, the Water Taxi Tour, the Speciality Tour or the Devenish Island Tour.
The Erne Water Taxi offers several tours from 1 hour to 3 hours trips across the upper and lower Lough Erne. Taking in the beautiful sights surrounding this island Town, guests will uncover the unique stories behind well-known islands in Fermanagh including Devenish Island, Inishmacsaint and White Island.
The speciality tour is ideal for special events, holding up to 12 people the boat tour can be hired for 3 hours at a time with guests having the option of including live music on their tour. It is a unique way of celebrating events including birthdays, anniversaries and sightseeing cruises where guests can enjoy a light bite, live music and a drink or two at their leisure.
For those seeking an activity to get the heart racing, Erne water bikes and stand-up paddle boarding are a great way to combine fun with exercise out on the water.
These activities are perfect for large groups of friends or as part of an activity fuelled family day out. In association with Blue Green Yonder, these activities can be carried out at Castle Hume Lough at Lough Erne Resort or on the Lough Erne near Enniskillen Castle. In the neighbouring town of Lisnaskea just a 30-minute drive from the resort, Share Discovery Village also provide a range of water activities suitable for families and groups of friends including an outdoor inflatable water park, canoeing, kayaking and banana boating. For those who prefer to stay onland, there forestry area offers a range of activities including Archery, mountain biking orienteering and bush craft.
Outdoor Coffee Shops
After a jam-packed day of activities, there is few things better than unwinding with a delicious steaming hot coffee or a fresh cold ice cream on a hot summer’s day. The Croft Farm Shop located on the outskirts of Enniskillen offer a range of delectable sweat treats and delicious homemade coffee to be enjoyed in their outdoor covered seating area. It was established to be a showcase for their multi-award-winning range of preserves, chutneys and cheese. Set on a family farm in the beautiful Fermanagh Lakelands, The Croft Farm Shop occupies an original 1970’s milking byre that has been thoughtfully renovated. This is a unique experience showcasing the best of rural Fermanagh.
On the opposite end of town at Oghill Farm in Killadeas, Tickety Moo Ice Cream Farm Shop offers a selection of freshly produced homemade ice cream to be enjoyed at its outdoor picnic benches or as you go on a leisurely stroll around the farm to visit the animals. It is an ice cream farm shop with a difference where visitors can watch its herd of award-winning pedigree jersey cows being milked while enjoying a homemade ice cream.
