Crom Estate
Located on the shores of Upper Lough Erne, Crom Estate is one of Ireland's most beautiful, peaceful and important nature conservation areas.
The 2,000 acre demesne contains ancient woodland, tranquil islands, estate cottages and Old Crom Castle. Home to a wealth of wildlife including deer, pine marten and eight species of native bats, Crom Estate is the perfect place to do a bit of fishing, butterfly spotting, bird watching or woodland walking.
The Castle itself was built in 1820 in Victorian style despite the fact that Queen Victoria's reign began later on in 1837. It has since been home to the Crichton family, Earls of Erne and the estate is managed by the National Trust. The estate also contains the ruins of the Old Castle, which was a tower house previously owned by the Balfour family until the Crichtons acquired it in 1609. Guided tours around the Castle can be arranged.
BBC comedy series, Blandings, was filmed at Crom Castle in 2012 which brought well-known actors to the estate such as Timothy Spall, Jennifer Saunders and David Walliams.
