Located only one hour from the resort is Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery, which offers a fascinating insight into life in Ireland over five thousand years ago.
Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery is the largest cemetery of megalithic tombs in Ireland and is also among the country's oldest, with monuments ranging from five thousand to five thousand eight hundred years old. Archaeologists have recorded over 60 tombs of which 30 are visible. A restored cottage houses an exhibition relating to the site. Access to the tombs may be difficult for people with disabilities. Visitors are advised to wear shoes suitable for walking on uneven terrain.
Tours can take from 45 minutes to one hour and are packed full of interesting information for you to digest. As the site is the largest of its nature in Ireland it puts it in the category of also being one of the largest in Europe, attracting people from all over the world.
